To ensure your smooth transition from summer rest and recreation to the fall enrollment process at Manhattan School of Music, please use this checklist to reconcile any outstanding matters prior to arriving at Manhattan School of Music in August.

Office of Admissions

All final documents listed in this section must be received by the Office of Admissions no later than August 1, 2014. If all required documents are not received by this date, you will not be able to register for the Fall 2014 semester. In addition, International students' visas may be adversely affected.

Official Transcripts

Graduate students must provide transcripts from all previous colleges attended.  Transfer students must provide college and high school transcripts.  Freshman students must provide transcripts from all previous high schools. Note: Copies and faxes are not considered official.

Proof of Degree or Diploma

Official proof of degree or diploma is required for all freshman, graduate, and doctoral students. If your transcript lists your degree or diploma, and your date of graduation, that will suffice.

Immunization Records

The Immunization History Form must be completed and signed by your physician or appropriate medical personnel. The Meningitis Immunity Form must be completed and signed by the student or the student's guardian.

Translation and WES

International students and students who have studied abroad must provide an official translation of all non-English transcripts. Students asked to provide a World Education Services Evaluation must have an official report sent directly from WES to MSM, or request that an electronic copy be made available to MSM through the WES website.

Office of Financial Aid

For students receiving any form of financial assistance please visit the full financial aid website.  Below are a few quick tips many of our accepted students need to remember.

Signed Award Letter

To Accept any or all of your eligible financial aid the award letter must be printed, signed, and return to the Office of Financial Aid.  You may scan and email to, fax to 212-749-3025, or mail to The Office of Financial Aid, 120 Claremont Ave, New York, NY 10027. 

The award letter must be returned so that the funds can be applied to your billing statement.

Students Accepting Student Loans

  • To accept a Federal Direct Stafford Loan(s), the student will need to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN)and an Entrance Counseling Session online at
  • To receive a Federal Direct Parent or Grad PLUS Loan, you/your parent will need to visit to complete a loan application and a MPN.  Graduate students must also complete entrance counseling at the same website.

Office of Student Accounts

You, the student, are the account holder and fully responsible for paying the balance on or before the due dates regardless of the source of funds. Review your invoice and financial aid package. Determine the balance not paid by financial aid

Late Fees and Other Consequences

Understand that late fees and other consequences will apply to all accounts not paid by the due date as follows:

  • July 25, 2014 – $250
  • September 30, 2014 – Possible suspension from all School activities, including major lessons

Payment Options

Review payment options as described in the enclosed Tuition and Fees brochure and select the one that fits your financial situation.

  • Pay in Full – Total balance (net of expected financial aid) is due July 24
  • Sallie Mae Deferred Payment Plan – Pay one-half of the Fall semester's charge (net of expected approved financial aid) plus a $35 enrollment fee by July 24; second half due October 2
  • Sallie Mae TuitionPay Plan – Pay the entire academic year's balance (net of expected approved financial aid) by monthly installments. An annual fee of $55 must be submitted upon enrollment. This plan is available from June 1 to July 24. You can enroll via their website at Sallie Mae.

Student Authorization

Sign and return student authorization to release education records to parent(s)/guardian(s)/sponsor(s) form.  Staff will NOT discuss your student account with anyone except you, the student, and individuals indicated in writing on this form. Click here for a copy of the form.

International Students

Please be sure to submit your completed I-20 application as soon as possible.

If the I-20 application is incomplete, your I-20 cannot be issued to you. As the processing of an I-20 application can take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, please be sure to submit all required materials as soon as possible.

All MSM students are required to carry a Manhattan School of Music identification card at all times. Your student ID card gives you access to MSM buildings and practice rooms and is used as your meal plan card and library card.

All new students must email a digital photo to the Office of Information Technology by August 22, 2014. The photo should be taken in portrait orientation and saved at 72 DPI resolution (ideally the photo should be 300 pixels wide and 375 pixels high). If you are unaware of the pixels or resolution, simply send us a clear, close-up photo of your face, with a neutral background. Do not wear sunglasses or hats. Please submit photos via the Admissions Portal.

Manhattan School of Music has the right to reject any photo and to request a new photo. Those who do not supply an acceptable photo by the deadline will need to be extremely patient as they check in, as their ID card will not be ready upon their arrival.

Use this form to list all people who should be contacted in an emergency. All students must complete a new Emergency Contact Form each year. Please return this form as soon as possible. It must be received by August 22, 2014.

Health Insurance

Health insurance is required of all full-time students at Manhattan School of Music. The health insurance should be one that can be easily used in New York City to take care of any sickness or accident that may occur. Manhattan School of Music provides a health insurance plan at the reasonable cost of $2,432 for a full year of coverage, but allows those who are covered by equitable insurance to waive out of MSM’s plan. All students must complete the online enrollment/waiver process by August 22, 2014. Instructions on how to complete the online waiver process will be emailed to confirmed students by July 18th.
