MSM Emergency Response Plan

Preparedness, Prevention, and Recovery

Created with Sketch.

Preparedness and Prevention

In order to prepare for emergencies, and to prevent them from occurring, the MSM community – particularly the EMT – take the following steps.

  1. MSM has an annual comprehensive review of the Emergency Plan and its related strategies.
  2. MSM conducts regular fire drills and Fire Warden trainings with the cooperation of Croker Fire Drill Corporation.
  3. MSM conducts annual “tabletop” exercises to orient the MSM EMT to emergency response protocols.
  4. Members of MSM’s EMT (particularly the Associate Vice President of Facilities and Campus Services or his delegates) regularly attend training seminars and other professional development opportunities to improve the quality of this Plan.
  5. Members of the House staff, Production staff, and Residence Life staff participate in supplemental annual training for best practices in emergency response.
  6. MSM has had its Plan reviewed by external legal and emergency consultants to ensure its effectiveness and completion.

Recovery

If a disaster occurs, MSM will carry out a recovery program that involves both short-term and long-term efforts. Short-term operations seek to restore vital services to the MSM community and provide for the basic needs of the public. Long-term recovery focuses on restoring the university to its normal state. The federal government, pursuant to the Stafford Act, provides the vast majority of disaster recovery assistance. The recovery process includes assistance to individuals, businesses, and government and other public institutions. Examples of recovery programs include (but are not necessarily limited to): restoration of university services, debris removal, restoration of utilities, disaster mental health services (as needed), and reconstruction of damaged facilities.
