Three MSM alumni are nominees for the 2024 International Opera Awards taking place on October 2

The MSM alumni named as finalists are: Tenor Jonathan Tetelman (BM ’11) in the “Male Singer” category, and baritone Justin Austin (BM ’14, MM ’17) along with bass William Guanbo Su (BM ’17) in the “Rising Star” category.

The International Opera Awards are a highly prestigious annual awards event, and this year’s ceremony will take place on October 2 at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Germany. We congratulate each of the MSM alumni who are nominated this year!

  • Tenor Jonathan Tetelman (BM ’11), in the “Male Singer” category. He is one of six finalists in this category. Tetelman studied with Maitland Peters at MSM.
  • Baritone Justin Austin (BM ’14, MM ’17), in the “Rising Star” category. He is one of ten finalists in this category. Austin studied with Catherine Malfitano (BM ’71) at MSM.
  • Bass William Guanbo Su (BM ’17), in the “Rising Star” category. He is one of ten finalists in this category. Su studied with Cynthia Hoffmann at MSM.

All three MSM finalists have risen to prominence in recent years after performances with the Metropolitan Opera.

Note: In 2023, the Bayerische Staatsoper received the coveted Opera Company of the Year award (displayed above with another award). Because of its win last year, Bayerische is hosting this year’s awards, continuing a tradition set several years prior.
