Following a nation-wide search, MSM is pleased to announce that MSM Alumnus Enrique Márquez (MM ’04) joined MSM as Assistant Dean for Youth Programs and Director of Precollege on August 16, 2022.
“Enrique has a deep passion and commitment to music education, with a foundational goal of excellence defined by artistry, access, and diversity of participants and programming,” says MSM Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Joyce Griggs.
Mr. Márquez, who comes to MSM following a successful tenure as Director of Music at Interlochen Center for the Arts, brings a wealth of knowledge and cultural leadership experience to his new role at MSM.
As a fellow in the Sphinx Lead program, Mr. Márquez has invested time and talent honing his leadership skills beyond his impressive pedigree, which includes degrees from Interlochen Arts Academy, Indiana University, and Manhattan School of Music, as well as a Master’s degree in Cultural Policy and Management from City University London.
Other professional contributions to expanding the reach of music education include appointments at Harvard and the Veracruz Cultural Institute (Mexico).
As Associate Dean of Youth Programs and Director of Precollege, Mr. Márquez will position MSM to explore and expand opportunities to design non-degree/non-certificate community-based music education programs. “It is a true privilege to return to my alma mater and serve its commitment to excellence in education, performance, and creative activity,” he says.
MSM welcomes Enrique Márquez to Manhattan School of Music and sends out great thanks to the outgoing Director of Precollege, Tiffany Bizup, who will transition to a part-time advisory role, effective August 22.
