On May 15, 2024, Manhattan School of Music presented its Annual Gala in New York City’s iconic Rainbow Room.
Hosted by Tony Award-winning MSM alumnus Shuler Hensley (BM ’90, HonDMA ’14), the evening celebrated the School’s Musical Theatre program, the only stand-alone musical theatre conservatory program in New York City.
The event featured performances by talented students from MSM’s Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre and alumna Alysia Velez (BM ’22) who recently appeared on Broadway in Into the Woods.
The gala also saluted two giants of musical theatre: two-time Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell (HonDMA ’24) and Ted Chapin (Hon DMA ’24), former President of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Foundation and trustee of the American Theatre Wing.
Additional distinguished guests included Joe Benincasa, President of the Entertainment Community Fund; MSM trustee Scott Dunn (MM’97), Associate Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra; Kim Kowalke, President of the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music; philanthropist Dominque Laffont; pianist Anne Marie McDermott (PC ’81, ’82, HonDMA ’24); MSM alumna Noémi K. Neidorff (BM ‘70, MM ’72, HonDMA ’17), Secretary of the School’s Board of Trustees; Grammy Award winning jazz musician and composer Linda Oh (MM 08, HonDMA ’24); James Roe, President & Executive Director, Orchestra of St. Luke’s; fashion designer Adrienne Vittadini; and Ann Ziff, Chair, The Metropolitan Opera.
The annual gala is Manhattan School of Music’s most important fundraiser of the year, and this year the event raised more than $600,000.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all who donated generously, and who took part in a very special evening showcasing the talent of our students, alumni, and faculty.
